Project Description:
The Shaker Dance Pavilion was the first architectural exercise inspired by the Shaker artifact analysis and performance diagrams. As with the Museum, convergence, transience and undulation undergirded the design process.
The Pavilion is situated on the footprint of a former grist and lumber mill, on the lands of the North Family Shaker Village in New Lebanon, NY.
The design reestablishes a pedestrian connection from the road, across the gorge, to the fields adjacent to the proposed site. The path became a mechanism to divide the pavilion both programmatically and formally.
